IT-Committee Homenetmen Vienna is one of the only Homenetmen chapters that has a dedicated IT-Department 1. Membership & Data Management The committee manages the systems that track every Scout’s journey. Advancement Tracking: Maintaining databases where badges, ranks, and requirements are logged. Health & Safety Records: Ensuring that medical forms and emergency contact info are stored securely but accessible to leaders when in the field. 2. Infrastructure & Digital Presence They act as the „internal IT department“ for the local council or national headquarters. Website & Communications: Managing the public-facing website, newsletters, and social media integrations to help with recruitment. Internal Tools: Providing email hosting as well as cloud services for volunteer commissioners and professional staff. Event Tech: Setting up registration portals for large events like Jamborees or „Camporees,“ including payment processing. 3. Cyber Safety & Youth Protection Scouting has a massive focus on safety, and the IT committee translates that into the digital world. Digital Safeguarding: Implementing policies for how adults and youth interact online (e.g., „no one-on-one digital contact“ rules). Data Privacy: Ensuring the organization complies with laws like GDPR or COPPA, as they handle sensitive data of minors. Cyber Chip/Digital Badges: Often, the IT committee helps design or update the requirements for technology-related merit badges or digital safety certifications. 4. Technical Support for Volunteers Since most Scout leaders are volunteers, the IT committee provides the „Help Desk“ function. Training: Creating guides for less tech-savvy leaders on how to use reporting tools. Equipment: Managing hardware for summer camps, such as Wi-Fi networks in remote areas, point-of-sale systems for trading posts, and radio communication equipment.
